Never Eat Alone

by Keith Ferrazzi with Tahl Raz
Reviewed by Brian Beirl

This not so new book deals with a not so new premise: Who you know is more important than ... well, you know the rest.

But are you practicing it on a daily basis? If you have read this book, and are following its tenets, how come I haven’t heard from you? Let’s do lunch!

Keith Ferrazzi encourages the reader to look at our ways creating business contacts with a different viewpoint.

Here are a few examples:

Networking: Rather than networking, start connecting. The difference is networking tends to be self oriented and connecting is building relationships and helping others achieve their goals.

Conferences: Attending conferences is not so much about attending presentations and taking notes, as much as, with whom you can connect and in turn, build a relationship. Mid-morning breaks, lunch, and evening events are the most important times of any conference.

Gatekeepers: These sometimes maligned people can be your greatest business partner. Never go head to head with an administrative assistant. You will lose. Be friendly and familiar, so that when you are persistent you will not become a pest.

Speaking: Presenting to groups will put you on the fast track to becoming better known and will increase your opportunities to connect with others. The times before and after your presentation are the most valuable to your audience and your future.

Mentors: Create your own group of mentors that will help you clarify and realize your vision.

There are some books that have value and depth on every page, this is such a book. Keith Ferrazzi holds nothing back, and gives of himself and his vast experience in helping the reader be inspired to become a better connector with the most precious asset of our lives, other people. Read this book and begin by contacting that person. They have been waiting for you.
