Unbroken

Take a Break!
Business book titles like The Ten Secrets of This, or The Ten Biggest Mistakes, or How I Did It, drone on and on and after a while they all seem to blend into one another.
It is time for a Break. Read a book that is “seemingly” unrelated to business.
Unbroken is such a book. Laura Hillenbrand gained notoriety as a world renowned author for her beautifully crafted story of an incredible race horse. Seabiscuit was about horse racing, like Moby Dick was about fishing. Unbroken is not just about war, but one person’s unwavering quest to overcome adversity.uis Zamperini had an incredible life: a world class Olympic long distance runner in Hitler’s 1936 Munich games drafted into the Army Air Corps following Pearl Harbor, shot down and lost at sea for over a month, endless years in brutal POW camps in Japan, battling his memories and demons after the war, and through it all never giving up, finding a way in the end to succeed.
I cringe when I hear people talking about the “pain” of this economic downturn. This book not only will put your life and business into perspective, it will help all of us appreciate the sacrifices made by those before us who have allowed us to have a country and economy to complain about.
As the book editor for BABM, I have the opportunity to read several business books a week. I thought I was taking a break with Unbroken, but what I found was one of the most well-written, extensively researched, brutally honest books I have read in years. For some, the story’s graphic nature may be shocking, but the overpowering strength of Louis Zamperini will stay with you and be an inspiration when things get tough.
